The Lady Bulldog softball team began its 2005 campaign Monday, Feb. 14 against Glen Rose with a 10-run first inning. But the Lady Bulldogs were unable to cross the plate again in the following innings and the Lady Tigers slowly eroded the Hamilton lead and eventually claimed a 14-10 victory.
Glen Rose scored three runs in the first inning, three in the second, five in the third, one in the fourth and two in the sixth.
The Lady Bulldogs out hit the Lady Tigers 11-6 in the contest, but 12 Hamilton errors proved costly.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Kayla Williams was two for four at the plates with two runs scored; Cienna Smith was 1-4 with two runs; Melinda Brown 1-4 with an RBI; Monica Reed 2-4 with one run and four RBIs; Ileah Kirkham was 1-4, 1 run, 1 RBI; Breanne Payne 1-4, 1 run, 1 RBI; Kristen Payne 1-4, 1 run, 1 RBI; Taylor Clark 0-2, 1 run, 1 RBI; and Shiorm Herrera 2-3, 1 run, 1 RBI.
Later that week the Lady Bulldogs played in a tournament in Gatesville. In pool play the Lady Bulldogs lost to Rosebud Lott 1-6, to Gatesville 1-10 and tied Hillsboro 5-5.
In bracket play, the Lady Bulldogs lost to Killeen Ellison 1-10 and to Salado 1-3.
Against Rosebud Lott, Brown was 2-2 at the plate and K. Payne 1-2. Herrera scored Hamilton’s only run.
In the loss to Gatesville, Brown had the only hit for Hamilton and Williams scored the run.
Against Hillsboro, the Lady Bulldogs scored all five runs in the bottom of the third to come back and tie the game. Hillsboro scored two in the first inning, one in the second and two in the third. Brown, Reed, Kirkham and B. Payne each had one hit and Reed, Kirkham, B. Payne and Smith each had an RBI. Sierra Fergason, Brown, Reed, Kirkham, B. Payne and Smith each scored one run.
The game against Killeen Ellison remained close through the first three innings. Hamilton and Killeen scored one run each in the second inning. The Lady Bulldogs were unable to counter, however, when Killeen crossed the plate five times in the fourth and four times in the fifth.
Reed scored Hamilton’s only run.
The loss to Salado was a defensive battle all the way. Salado got on the board first with one run in the third. They scored twice more in the fifth and Hamilton scored its only run in the fifth.
The Lady Bulldogs were out hit five to one. Jordon Box had Hamilton’s only hit and only run.
Hunt to perform with WAYWE

G. Walker Hunt, a senior at Hamilton High School and member of the Hamilton Band, will perform for his second time with the Waco Area Youth Wind Ensemble this Sunday, March 6 at 3 p.m. The performance will be at McLennan Community College Performing Arts Center and admission is free.
Selected by audition, WAYWE is comprised of the finest young instrumentalists in Central Texas. As a select, auditioned group, the mission of WAYWE is to provide dedicated musicians a venue to experience the finest literature in the wind repertoire while building musical skills, community involvement and aesthetic appreciation.
WAYWE was founded in the fall of 1993 by Dr. James Popejoy, former director of bands at MCC and is sponsored by McLennan Community College and directed by Dr. Brian Harris.
